Packages of Requirements

The furniture industry roughly consists of three sections, namely furniture companies (residential, school and project furniture), interior builders and suppliers. The sector also includes manufacturers of various products such as mattresses, partition walls, coffins and picture frames. There are both artisanal and industrial manufacturers and many small-scale companies: about 80% of companies employ no more than ten employees. The furniture industry includes approximately 2,500 companies and employs approximately 20,000 people. The Central Association of Furniture Manufacturers(CBM) is the trade organization in the furniture industry.

General Terms & Conditions & Package of Requirements

Good client and contractor management is a shared responsibility and above all offers a sense of cooperation. Dutch law under BW 5,6,7 provides parties laws in those exceptional cases in which no solution has been found.  The soul is purified by righteousness and by doing right.

If wood is used in a construction (strength-graded wood with a rectangular cross-section NEN-EN 14081), or as a trader or producer of floors (NEN-EN 14342 wooden floors and parquet), (NEN-EN 14080 glued laminated wood and glued solid wood), (NEN-EN 15497 finger-jointed sawn wood for structural applications), (NEN-EN 14915 wall and facade cladding of solid wood) applies  the OBLIGATION to CE mark the product and draw up a declaration of performance (DoP).

The General Product Safety Directive for furniture REQUIRES economic operators to place only safe products on the European market. Safe products do not pose unacceptable safety risks to the consumer under normal or reasonably expected conditions of use.

A risk, inventory & Evaluation is a starting point for assessing whether working conditions in a company are in order when there is an employment contract. Although an assignment does not involve an employment relationship, it may be assumed that the client also monitors safety, health, working hours, work experience and environmental care. Employers in the furniture industry can use the industry-recognized RI&E and no test will take place. Explosion safety (ATEX) plays an important role in the interior construction and furniture industry through the use of wood dust, glue and lacquers. This ATEX guidance is part of RI&E.
